Oh, dear Scott!! I feel your pain. I re-did my kitchen and landscaped my back yard to better manage run-off a few years back. Both required some level of code enforcement. What an expensive pain. But the county engineer who helped with my water management issues was extremely helpful.

You will have to publish pictures of your new deck and three-season room. Margaret and JD (my sister and brother-in-law) did the same thing. They love their new three-season room. They use it all the time.

Absolutely right on the money. You might enjoy reading “Abundance” by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. They tend to be liberal in their thinking, but they are advocating for exactly what you describe here for exactly the same reasons. They back up their thinking with data that goes back to the 1940s and 1950s. We need this kind of long-term thinking and advocacy for action across the political spectrum.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you think this should/will play out. I love your comment: “Dealing with Putin is like kissing a snake on the mouth and not expecting to be bitten.” I think this is spot on. Putin is a seasoned actor on the world stage. However, I’m very skeptical about the ability for Trump and his team to navigate Putin’s wiley ways.
