I echo many of your thoughts regarding the 70s Army as opposed to our current force.  My biggest concern is that the senior leadership when we served was molded and honed on the very tough battlefields in Viet Nam.  Valor awards and Purple Hearts  they earned as company, troop, and battery commanders were the norm.  Our leaders are more attuned to the political winds rather than the winds of war.
