After spending much time studying the Middle East, I am—as many of you are—appalled at the October 7 Hamas massacre of innocent Israelis.  I won’t recount the unspeakable horrors, many of which are so violent and depraved that they cannot be discussed in any civil forum. Hamas has proven itself to be barbaric, indeed vile creatures who must be pursued to the ends of the earth and destroyed.  Israel is doing so and with the approval of decent people around the world.

The exception, of course, are the shallow hooligans—both students and professors—on college campuses across America, who are advocating for Hamas and its call to exterminate Jews in Israel.  But those on campuses have taken the Hamas call to a new level, attacking their fellow Jewish students and colleagues with the same ferocious and hatful rhetoric that emanates from the subterranean sewers of Gaza.

On Ivy League lawns and quads, the detestable Hamas lobby takes great pride in calling for the death of Jews.  Local Jewish eateries and businesses have been targeted for protests.  Their proprietors are guilty of nothing.  Yet they have been singled out by a new breed of antisemitic “Browns Shirts” not seen since 1938.

In November of that awful year, German Nazi thugs attacked and smashed Jewish-owned stores, buildings, and synagogues.  So much glass was broken that night that it was euphemistically referred to as Kristallnacht, literally “Crystal Night.” German authorities stood by and did nothing to stop the carnage.  That night 267 synagogues throughout Germany, Austria, and the Sudetenland were destroyed.  Over 7,000 Jewish businesses were ransacked.  In short order 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and dispatched to concentration camps. From that point forward, millions of Jews in Germany and throughout Europe had a target on their backs.  That’s the history.  Jews today know that history.  The simpletons supporting Hamas on university campuses know no history, only the latest lie that comes across social media.  And those lies could turn deadly unless we take action to stop them in their tracks.

I am a firm supporter of free speech, the purpose of which is to distill truth from discourse.  But what is being spouted by the campus brownshirts of our age are despicable lies. Take for example Hamas supporters who claim—disgustingly so—that the Jewish women repeatedly raped by Hamas vermin on 7 October were actually sexually assaulted by the Jews themselves!  That charge is so outrageous that it defies all consideration.  And while free speech tolerates lying, some lies are intolerable on their face.  Many of the things Hamas apologists claim are beyond the pale of civilized discourse.

Their support for Hamas replicates that of demented people who supported Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, all of whom were atrocious murderers and villains.  They were all intolerable.  Nor should we tolerate malicious campus hoodlums of this age as they exhibit the very same antisemitism that ushered in Kristallnacht 85 years ago.  Sadly, it appears that just as German authorities stood by and did nothing, so too university presidents are shirking their duty to take corrective action to condemn and prohibit the threats that college mobs pose to innocent Jewish students and professors.

Witness the pathetic performance of major Ivy League presidents before Congress this week when they were called to account for the antisemitic environment on their campuses.  Their equivocations, attempts to deflect, and refusal to answer questions directly and clearly, reveals a moral ambiguity unbecoming of a college president.  Every one of them should be fired.  One of them even had the gall to suggest—under direct questioning—those charges of antisemitism depended on the “context” of that antisemitism. Substitute for a moment what would have been the response to anti-gay, anti-black, anti-transgender threats on the university campuses of our surreal woke age.  The hue and cry would be deafening.  Yet when Jewish kids are trapped in a library fearing for their lives, when they feel the need to hide under tables to avoid assault, or do not attend classes altogether while fearing physical harm, is that enough “context” to be utterly outraged with antisemitic behavior in America?

This must end.  Congress can’t do so.  We can. It’s time for a nation-wide boycott of universities.  Maybe 2024’s high school seniors should be encouraged by their parents to (1) enlist in the military, or (2) go to trade school, or (3) just get a job to earn money and acquire valuable experience.  That would send a clear message to woke college administrators and anti-Jewish intellectuals in higher education that decent Americans are quite done with university-tolerated antisemitism.

When the college aristocrats lose their tuition cash, we’ll have their attention. “Boycott 2024!” should be our battle cry.
